On June 7th 5:30-7:30pm, two members of MSOE SWE joined Milwaukee French Immersion School for their Fête du Cerveau (STEAM Night).
The event had various stations that students and their parents could visit that represented the components of STEAM and included literature as well. The students enjoyed going to each section and doing the various activities.
MSOE SWE brought two activities for students to enjoy (and learn from, of course).
One activity, students were able to write their names in binary code using beads and then wear it as a bracelet or necklace. Then, they could show off to their friends and family that they know how to spell their name in binary code. By the end of the night, there were quite a few beads to pick up on the floor!
The other activity involved engineering and simple knowledge of electrical circuits. Students were able to create flashlights only using a few materials: a colorful LED lightbulb, aluminum foil, notecard, battery, and tape. Students learned about the positive and negative sides of a battery and the flow direction of electrical circuits. In the end, they got to see the lightbulb light up once the circuit was completed correctly!
The Milwaukee French Immersion School students and MSOE SWE members enjoyed the STEAM night. We hope to do more events like this in the future!
